Our Story

The Andrew County Senior Center started in October of 1975 with a $20,000.00 grant.

Meals were served out of the basement of LaVerna Heights and the office was on the second floor of the Courthouse.
July 15, 1976 we moved to the West side of the square. October 1, 1979 the Center withdrew from Andrew County Human Resource Corp and officially became the Andrew County Council on Aging, Inc.

July 24, 1981 the Senior Center of Andrew County moved into their new building on the East side of the square. In February 1989 the seniors decided to purchase the building next door and the upstairs from the Masons.
On April 2, 2002 the Senior Citizen of Andrew County successfully passed the Senior Citizen Service Fund Tax. The funds from this Senior tax continue to be crucial to our program to this date.
In June of 2006 the Board of Directors decided they had out grown their building and began the search for a new building. In 2010 they applied for grants and they decided on the old railroad property for the new building site at fourth and Chestnut, providing a clear title could be obtained, however, it could not and the search continued. The Messick trust pledged $75,000.00 to our building fund, over a 5 year period. In July of 2011 they were awarded the Community Development Block Grant for $300,000.00 and the Nap Credits where they could go out and sell the credits and generate $500,000.00 for the center. They started selling the credits in December 2011 and had all the credits sold by the 1 st of April 2012. There were many twists and turns in
the search and allocation of a new building.
Finally in 2013 it was decided that instead of building a new building as planned the senior center would remodel a building that was 14 years old and housed the Division of Aging. They finally began moving forward and started the remodel on April 28, 2014. By September the remodel was complete and we moved into our newly renovated building at 12737 State Rt E HWY. The Board of Directors voted to call the new center “Lambright Hall in honor of all of the hard work Linda Lambright put into making this dream a reality.
We continue to be grateful for all of the hard work, many memorials, donations, and grants that helped to purchase and remodel this beautiful building.
